We stayed at Chateau de Matel in Roanne as part of our French holiday. The beautiful 15th-century chateau, once owned by Andre Citroën, had spacious, quirky rooms with humorous details. The hosts, Laura and Olivier, were fantastic and took great care of us from the moment we arrived. The location was perfect - close enough to the airport to remain en route, but also a destination in its own right. We even had time to explore Fontainbleu forest before our late-night flight. Thank you, Chateau de Matel, for a lovely last night in France!
Strongly recommend this hotel.

We had a delightful stay at Chateau De Matel. Olivier, our host, made us feel at home and provided a delicious breakfast with lovely cheese. The hotel is located in a beautiful park, just a short walk outside of town. Our room was large and very comfortable, and we appreciated the safe place provided for us to leave our bikes. We will definitely return when we are in the area again!
It was all superb! 🌟

The building was unique and the pool was a nice touch. It was also conveniently located near a charming city and close to major highways.
The service and amenities were not up to par. The staff's attitude was also unhelpful and unfriendly.

Wonderful 15th century chateau, spacious rooms, humorous details, close to charming Roanne city, great hosts, hotel of the year.
No luxurious furnishing, seminar/wedding venue.

Beautiful 15th-century chateau with quirky rooms, set in a peaceful location close to a charming city. Welcoming hosts catered to our preferences and provided a secluded escape. Planning to return and explore their gites. Recommended local restaurant for a fabulous night out.

Spent xmas nights at a lovely historic location with stunning parkland surroundings. Room was large and had a comfortable bed which was perfect for a holiday sleep-ins. Service staff did their best to keep up and serve us the best holiday breakfast, although it was not plentiful like we wished. The place is ideally situated for those who love nature and a slower pace of life.
But the architecture and decor are in a desperate need of improvement, specially windows and shutters. Maintenance wasn't up to par. Room had no grab rail during slippery times and bathroom was out of safety mats. Our unfortunate stay was accompanied by a hailstorm that damaged both of our cars parked on the premises. The proprietor wasn't too helpful when we asked for help on where to dine after we failed to make our bookings. not recommended.

The hotel is situated in a beautiful park and it's so close to the town center that I was able to walk there. The staff was friendly and accommodating, adjusting breakfast for my preferences. There was also plenty of fruit available for allergy sufferers, which I appreciated. The rooms were clean and spacious with humorous details.
Everything was fantastic.

I recently stayed at Chateau De Matel for a few nights and it was absolutely wonderful. The 15th century Chateau, formerly owned by Andre Citroën, was a beautiful and unique setting. The spacious rooms were filled with humorous details that added to the charm of the place. The hosts, Laura and Olivier, were outstanding and took care of every guest from the moment of arrival. The location was peaceful and quiet, and its proximity to the charming city of Roanne was a bonus. Thank you for an unforgettable stay, we will definitely be returning!

The hotel is located in a scenic area, set in a beautiful park with lovely grounds to walk in. Some rooms have amazing views of the valley, and there are lower blocks with easy access. Despite its peaceful location, it is so close to the town center of the nearby city. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and clean, with friendly staff who provide great service. The breakfast is delicious and includes lovely cheese. Facilities such as safe places to leave bikes and a restaurant reservation service are also available.
The hotel's location may not appeal to those wanting a lively atmosphere, as it is not near any busy commercial areas.
